Righteous speech for a dishonourable war

A Ministry of Defence investigation cleared Colonel Tim Collins of all charges of mistreating prisoners of war brought against him in the wake of the recent conflict in Iraq.

The investigation was ordered following claims by US Army Major Re Biastre that Collins had pistol-whipped prisoners, shot at their feet and shot out the tyres of civilian vehicles when there was no risk to life.

Collins strenuously denied the charges throughout. He admitted to shooting out the tires of looters' vehicles to stop them making off with essential supplies. He categorically denied charges of pistol whipping or beating prisoners.
Biastre had not actually witnessed the incidents, and was merely passing on allegations made by a Ba'ath party member. During the investigation it emerged that Biastre, a social worker in civilian life, had earlier been publicly dressed down by Collins for distributing sweets to Iraqis during active operations.

EMDAD RAHMAN meets ATM Hafizullah, Dhaka Sheratons Director of sales and marketing

I recently interviewed ATM Hafizullah, the Director of Sales and Marketing at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel. A former cashier, Hafizullah began his career in hospitality at the Sheraton 22 years ago, and has not looked back since.

The grandeur and beauty of the Dhaka Sheraton, a majestic hotel in Dhaka, evokes the magical history of the capital. Standing majestically in the city's most prestigious location, the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel is the ultimate address of traditional Bangladeshi hospitality. Modern facilities along with friendly and personalised service make it the ultimate address for international business travellers.

Located just 3 kilometres from the main business district, the city's only globally branded 5-star hotel is considered to be the perfect base for executive travellers.

At the Sheraton one can savour the best of local and international cuisine, while a host of business, convention and recreation facilities are available to satisfy the needs of casual travellers, tourists, and business executives.

In this interview, the wily veteran told me how he sees his role as a host, discusses his neighbourhood, and gives his personal recommendations for food, clothing, shops and entertainment for those of you who wish to travel to Dhaka.

The series of bomb attacks in the capital has claimed more than 50 lives and hundreds have been injured.
Relatives and friends of scores more have been searching for loved ones who may have been caught in the attacks.
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair said it was "reasonably clear" there had been a series of terrorist attacks.
He said it was "particularly barbaric" that it was timed to coincide with the G8 summit.

US President George Bush told reporters at the G8 Summit in Gleneagles that "the war on terror goes on."
